Luján is a city belonging to the province of Buenos Aires, 68 km north-east of the capital. It was founded in 1755 and has a population of about 67,000 inhabitants.
Luján Basilica is known for its neo-Gothic church, built in honor of the Virgin of Luján, the patron saint of Argentina. Each year, more than six million people make pilgrimages to the Basilica, many of them going there on foot from Buenos Aires. The city is known as La Capital de la Fe ("the capital of the faith"). It is a popular destination for non-believers, with plenty of restaurants with specialties from the grill and negozi di souvenir.
